The president’s wife “began to develop symptoms close to a cold” on Monday evening, and a PCR test came back positive, detailed her communications director Elizabeth Alexander. Jill Biden, 71, will benefit from the Paxlovid antiviral treatment and will isolate herself “at least five days” in South Carolina, where she was on vacation with Joe Biden, said Ms. Alexander.
The president has tested negative and will, as planned, return to Washington during the day, a White House spokesman said.
The 79-year-old president had tested positive for Covid-19 in late July with mild symptoms and self-isolated for about two weeks before finally testing negative on August 6.
