US halts avocado imports from Mexico

Guacamole is the iconic Super Bowl snack in the United States. But this year, shortly before the final of the National Football League, no avocados came from the largest importing country, Mexico. Drug cartels are to blame.

Since Saturday, Mexican avocados can no longer be exported to the United States.

It belongs to the Super Bowl like the halftime show: guacamole. On the day of the American football finals in the US, it is estimated 105 million tons of avocados consumed for the dip, more than on any other day of the year. Since Saturday, however, these avocados no longer come from Mexico. Because the American government has suspended the import of Mexican avocados “until further notice”.
