WARSAW (Reuters) – The first troops the U.S. military intends to deploy to Poland are expected to arrive there on Saturday, multiple sources told Reuters on Friday.

According to these sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, this schedule could however be modified due to logistical and security issues.

The Biden administration announced on Wednesday the deployment of 3,000 additional soldiers in Europe, mainly in Poland and Romania, in addition to the 8,500 soldiers that NATO announced on Monday that it had placed it on alert, against a backdrop of growing tensions with the Russia over Ukraine, moves described as “hysterical” by Moscow, which blames the West for the crisis.
