“At first I just thought: This is a nice bottle. But I was able to read a word underwater and then I knew it was a message in a bottle, »the American says CNN.
And it gets even better: the contents of the letter in the bottle are still completely legible. Even though the small bottle was two-thirds full with water.
Message in a bottle dated November 1926
The message from the past: “Will the person who found the bottle return it to George Morrow in Cheboygan, Michigan and reveal where they found it?” The note is dated November 1926. Cheboygan is a small town of 5,000 people on Lake Michigan.
Jennifer Dowker posted her find on Facebook. The post goes viral overnight. The words that George Morrow wrote on the slip of paper 95 years ago have been shared more than 100,000 times. And the words even find their way to the daughter of the author.
The author’s daughter “was really amazed”
Because George Morrow died in 1995. His daughter, Michele Primeau, is contacted by a Facebook user who has seen the finder’s post. “I was really amazed,” says the senior citizen.
She recognized her father’s handwriting immediately. Regarding the date of the message in a bottle, she says: «His birthday was in November. I can well imagine that he did that for the occasion, that would suit him. “
Heard from dad on Father’s Day
Particularly sweet, George Morrow’s daughter found out about her dad’s news on the weekend in June, celebrating Father’s Day in the USA.
Michele Primeau is happy to receive the message, but refuses the offer to keep her papa’s letter. She leaves the message in a bottle to the finder. “She found it and so my father’s name lives on.”
As a thank you, the sender’s daughter is allowed to ride on the finder’s boat for life. (euc)
