USA: Fall in unemployment claims to 201,000


February 22 (Reuters) – Unemployment claims fell in the United States in the week ending February 17, to 201,000 compared to 213,000 (revised) the previous week, the Labor Department announced on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 218,000 unemployment registrations.

Registrations for the week to February 10 were revised up from an initial estimate of 212,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 215,250 compared to 218,750 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving compensation rose to 1.862 million in the week ending February 10 (last week for which these figures are available) compared to 1.889 million the previous week. (Written by Corentin Chappron, edited by)
