The Houthis in Yemen say the Iranian attack on Israel is justified, but remain silent about their own involvement in it. According to the US military, the militia was involved – as were Tehran’s other allies.
According to the US military, the Houthi militia in Yemen was involved in the Iranian attack against Israel. US troops destroyed a rocket on a launcher and seven drones in the civil war country, the US Central Command announced on Sunday (local time).
In total, the US military destroyed more than 80 drones and at least six ballistic missiles from Iran and Yemen that were intended to reach Israel. According to the US statement, the attacks on Saturday evening and Sunday night also came from Iraq and Syria. The Houthis described Iran’s attack on Israel as “justified”, but did not initially explain to what extent they themselves were involved.
The Houthi militia controls large areas, especially in the north of Yemen, an impoverished country in the south of the Arabian Peninsula. With the help of Iran, they have continued to expand their weapons arsenal in recent years. Their drones have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, which have the potential to hit approximately thousands of US troops stationed in the Middle East.
The militia also has ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. Since the beginning of the Gaza war, the Houthis have primarily attacked merchant ships with suspected ties to Israel off the Yemeni coast.
