According to a highly anticipated report, the US government has no explanations for around 140 celestial phenomena. Only one of 144 phenomena examined could be identified, namely as a “balloon from which the air escaped”. All others could not be explained at least so far. In addition, 18 incidents were caused by “unusual movements or flight characteristics”.
There is no evidence that behind the “unidentified aerial phenomena” observed by pilots of the US Navy, among others, from the past two decades or so there was secret technology from China or Russia or extraterrestrial spacecraft.
But that cannot be ruled out either, said the report, which was released on Friday by the US Department of Defense in a nine-page approved version known as a “preliminary assessment”.
Unsuccessful report
The main problem with the investigation was insufficient data, the report said. At the same time it was determined that these phenomena are a security risk for air traffic and could possibly also represent a national security risk for the USA. Therefore, a plan should now be drawn up on how they could be better examined and understood.
The report of the “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force” (German: Task Force for unidentified air traffic phenomena) was awaited with great anticipation. The US Senator Mark Werner, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, described the report via Twitter as “rather inconclusive”. However, it only marks the beginning of efforts to understand and illuminate these incidents. (SDA)
