Oct 13 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims rose more than expected last week to 228,000 from a revised 219,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 225,000 jobless claims during the week to October 8.

Registrations for the week of October 1 have not been reviewed.

The four-week moving average on October 8 stands at 211,500 against 206,500 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.368 million during the week to October 1 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.365 million the previous week. (Written by Claude Chendjou, edited by Kate Entringer)
