PARIS, Sept 1 (Reuters) – Jobless claims unexpectedly fell in the United States last week to 232,000 from a revised 237,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists on average expected jobless claims for the week to August 27 up to 248,000.

Registrations for the week to August 20 have been revised down from an initial estimate of 243,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 241,500 against 245,500 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.438 million during the week to August 20 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.412 million the previous week. (Written by Claude Chendjou, edited by Matthieu Protard)
