Donald Trump (75) is under pressure. Because the New York prosecutors Letitia James and Cyrus R. Vance have given him an ultimatum. It must be proven by Monday that his Trump family company is clean. Failure to provide exculpatory material by the Trump team will result in criminal charges of tax evasion and fringe benefits to executives.
As two insiders of the “Washington Post” said, the ultimatum is said to have been given on Sunday and expires on Monday noon (local time). If no proof of innocence is provided by then, the two public prosecutors will sue together. Not against Trump personally, but against the Trump Organization and its CFO Allen Weisselberg (73).
Investigations began in August 2020
Just last Thursday, Trump’s lawyers met with the prosecutor to prevent a possible charge, as the “New York Times” reported – probably unsuccessfully. One of Trump’s defense lawyers, Ronald P. Fischetti, called the allegations against the ex-president’s group “ridiculous and outrageous”. During his tenure as a lawyer, he had never heard of a company being sued for fringe benefits to its employees.
The investigation against the Trump Organization began in August 2020. In addition to the ex-president himself, the focus of the investigation should also be on other family members. His children Donald Trump Jr. (43), Eric Trump (37) and Ivanka Trump (39) have all worked as management staff in the family company.
“Witch hunt” by the Democrats
Donald Trump describes the investigation as a “witch hunt” by the Democrats to damage his future political plans. The whole thing has been going on since the first day of his political campaign in 2015, Trump said in a press release.
The Trump Organization is made up of hundreds of limited liability companies. These include hotels and golf courses. But they are all controlled by a large trust fund that Trump himself owns. (ouch)
