A motherboard allowing the installation of a DDR4 or DDR5 module. This is surprising… but hardly of interest!

At first glance, you won’t see any other motherboards and for good reason, the choices of the Chinese manufacturer Onda seem surprising to say the least, but they have the merit of getting people talking.

Soberly called H610M+, the manufacturer’s latest motherboard is not even listed on its official website. On the other hand, we can already find it for sale on platforms like AliExpress.

LGA1700 socket and Alder Lake compatible

So why are we talking about this H610M+ on Clubic ? What makes this motherboard seem so original to us? It is quite simply the combination of the two most common generations of RAM.

Indeed, the manufacturer has decided to offer on this model in microATX format a 288-pin DIMM slot for a DDR4 strip and another DIMM slot still with 288 pins, but this time provided for a DDR5 strip. An original association to say the least, it is in any case the first time that we have seen such a card at Clubic.

Be aware, however, that it seems impossible to run both types of DDR simultaneously and, by opting for this motherboard, you will therefore be limited to a single RAM strip. In fact, you will not be able to take advantage of the dual-channel mode either, which is very useful for RAM.

Impossible to mix DDR4 and DDR5

If the motherboard is original, this limitation greatly limits its interest. Not taking advantage of dual-channel mode is penalizing with, depending on the situation, performance down by 5 to 15%.

However, this is not the only fault of a very strange product. Indeed, the motherboard is designed around the Intel H610M chipset which is clearly not the strongest in the American’s range. Why would we want to combine DDR5 when DDR4 is much cheaper and its speeds are sufficient for this type of platform?

Designed around an LGA1700 socket, the motherboard is however only announced as “Intel 12th generation compatible”, in other words Alder Lake processors. Could it be that it refuses to work with Raptor Lake? This would further reduce its interest while, to make matters worse, it is not such a cheap model: on AliExpress, without shipping costs and possible customs fees, it costs almost 160 euros.

Useless and way too expensive » as we told you in the title, but with such a motherboard in your PC, you will be sure to have a simply unique configuration!
