Because there is a lack of staff, the canton of Friborg closes the vaccination centers in Granges-Paccot and Bulle during part of the festive season or restricts operations. The decision is causing waves in the canton.
The authorities justify their decision with the exhaustion of the staff. The Liberals and their youth section criticize that it is not acceptable “to ask Freiburg residents to vaccinate and at the same time deny them the opportunity to do so”. In a message, the liberals call on the State Council to “do everything possible to continue the vaccination”. There was also criticism on Wednesday from the center and the GLP. The latter spoke of a lack of planning and foresight.
Army personnel must be trained first
Like other cantons in western Switzerland, the canton of Friborg has recently received temporary support from the army. But this reinforcement must first be trained, said Christophe Monney, deputy canton doctor, in a report in the daily newspaper “La Liberté” on Wednesday.
At the moment, the absenteeism rate among staff is very high and it is difficult to recruit staff. Monney spoke of a great state of exhaustion. The staff must therefore be spared.
From January 20,000 vaccinations per week
The cantonal government of Freiburg emphasized on Wednesday that 20,000 vaccinations per week will be available from mid-January. In regions without a vaccination center, mobile teams would be deployed.
There is an innovation in connection with the cantonal test center in Granges-Paccot. This moves back to the Forum Freiburg, where it was located before.
The center was under pressure because of the increasing number of cases and the new antigen tests that were carried out free of charge, as the authorities announced. Larger premises urgently had to be found for both the users and the staff. (SDA)
