Vaccine pass: the French approve the device but want to limit it in time

SURVEY – An Odoxa Backbone-Consulting study carried out for Le Figaro indicates that 71% of the population want an immediate suspension if the situation improves.

Particularly heckled during its examination in Parliament, the vaccination pass finally arouses the consent of the French. According to an Odoxa Backbone-Consulting survey conducted for Le Figaro, they are indeed 62% to approve the device which must come into force on Monday, according to recent government announcements.

The transition from the “sanitary” pass to the “vaccination” pass is not badly received by the population either. The institute’s old polls show that the level of approval of one or the other of these two tools has hardly changed in recent months.

Opinion in favor of compulsory vaccination

In detail, the system is particularly appreciated by those over 35 (57%), but especially seniors (80%) and the wealthiest French people (69%). While the popular categories (50%), young people aged 25 to 34 (57%) and the most modest French people (49%) disapprove of it more.

Tendencies echoing those of deputies and senators, since the groups most opposed to the text were those of La France insoumise and the National Rally. How, in thirty years, has the Lepenist vote conquered the popular electorate?.

For part of public opinion (61%), it would even be acceptable to go further and extend the vaccination obligation to all French people. An even larger proportion (76%) would like to apply this obligation to the elderly or frail.

Current measures are not unanimous

These figures can also be explained by the fact that a very large majority of eligible citizens have already had their three doses administered. According to the latest data used by Odoxa, two-thirds of adults received their last injection – that is 32.5 million people. As for the others, 8% intend to do their recall as soon as possible, and 25% have not yet decided. A proportion that is likely to remain stable, according to the institute, which points to a more reluctant public.

If the vaccination pass is widely accepted, even acclaimed, the French do not grant carte blanche to the government. 71% of them would like the tool to be “automatically suspendedas soon as the health situation improves. At this stage, the executive did not wish to provide details on the conditions which would make it possible to lift the vaccination pass.

Regarding the other measures in force, not all of them convince the public either. 68% of the population agrees with the increase in fines in the event of presentation of a false health pass, and 54% are in favor of identity checks by establishments open to the public. But a majority rejects, on the other hand, the obligation of the vaccination pass for young people aged 16 to 18, as well as the maintenance of the health pass for adolescents from 12 to 16 years old.

The sanctions imposed on companies that do not respect teleworking also come up against the opposition of 58% of French people.
