“This is all the more so when it is a category 1 or 2 dog of the molossoid type. In this case, the dog should normally be muzzled in addition to being attached on a leash. In this case, the dog had a leash but was not muzzled,” noted the trade unionist, asked by CNEWS.
Clear regulations
The regulations governing so-called “dangerous” dogs are indeed clear: when a dog of this type is outside the home, it must be muzzled, kept on a leash by an adult holding a detention permit.
Otherwise, the owner is liable to three months’ imprisonment and a fine of 3,750 euros, as well as a ban on keeping an animal. Owners who, moreover, are required to be aware and to respect the law for the safety of all.
“When raising a Pitbull or American Staff type dog, one must be aware of the fact that the animal can constitute a weapon by destination and that there can be a drama including domestic accidents and that the dog turns against his own master,” said Jean-Christophe Couvy. In any case, in the event of a bite, the so-called “dangerous” dog must be evaluated by a veterinarian.
