The prepaid market has hardly moved in recent months. That will change on May 17, 2022, because that’s when Telekom’s new prepaid tariffs will start. Prepaid competitors such as Aldi and Lidl in particular have to be careful, because Telekom is making significant strides.

Telekom has always had prepaid tariffs, but they weren’t really attractive when you looked at alternatives from Aldi, Lidl, Rewe or Penny. The only advantage lay in the 5G option. But now everything is changing, because Telekom is upgrading the prepaid tariffs properly. From May 17th a new offer applies (source: Telekom).
The following prices result:
- MagentaMobil Prepaid S: 500 MB (4G) + 50 free minutes for EUR 4.95 / 28 days
- MagentaMobil Prepaid M: 3 GB (5G) + telephone & SMS flat rate for EUR 9.95 / 28 days
- MagentaMobil Prepaid L: 5 GB (5G) + telephone & SMS flat rate for EUR 14.95 / 28 days
- MagentaMobil Prepaid XL: 7 GB (5G) + telephone & SMS flat rate for EUR 24.95 / 28 days
The MagentaMobil Prepaid M tariff in particular will be massively upgraded. You can now Use Telekom’s 5G network at no extra charge and no longer has to worry about making calls or writing text messages. This is now possible free of charge in all networks. So far, you have been very limited because there was only a flat rate to the Telekom network before.
Telekom is basically following the competition, but offers access to the new mobile network with 5G. The price of 9.95 euros is okay, even if it is still 2 euros higher than the prices of the competition. But now you can get one really full Telekom tariff as a prepaid offerwhich is essentially unrestricted.

5G annual tariff and MagentaEINS for prepaid
In the 5G annual tariff for 99.95 euros, prepaid users now have 36 GB available. You can also make as many phone calls and text messages as you want. If you have a broadband connection from Telekom, you can also benefit from the MagentaEINS prepaid tariffs. Starting with the “MagentaMobil Prepaid M” package, there is an additional 1 GB of data volume free of charge every month. This makes the prepaid tariff even more interesting and Deutsche Telekom retains customers.
