Validation of acquired experience promises to be more accessible from 2024

“Simplify, modernize and secure, these are the key words of the new generation validation of acquired experience (VAE), following the reform voted as part of the law relating to the labor market of December 21, 2022. A long-awaited reform, because, explains Marc Poncin, vice-president in charge of institutional relations of the Group of training actors and managers, a network bringing together five hundred training and HR professionals: “In twenty years of existence, VAE has become more complex. It has become cumbersome, with different rules, practices and reactions. For the employee, it was not always easy to navigate. »

Created in 2002, the VAE allows you to have your experience recognized by a jury with a title, diploma or professional qualification certificate without necessarily having to go through the training process. Both professional and personal experiences related to the desired diploma may be taken into account.

The candidates aim for recognition in their profession, a promotion, a change of job, or even a better salary. Ivette Ceretti, after having been a travel agent, then a guide, obtained a professional license as a guide-lecturer at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts thanks to the system. “I wanted to earn more, but, at 54, I didn’t want to change sector. It was the right time for me to become a guide. »

A one-stop shop

Until now the procedure was more of an obstacle course than a walk in the park. “It’s a lot of paperwork and, for a year, all my free time was devoted to VAEsays Ivette Ceretti, But it’s worth it ! » “The VAE is a great device, but it is an individual process that requires a lot of work and time. Consequence: some candidates ran out of steam”, explains Hélène Clédat, head of the employment-training department of the Federation of Commerce and Distribution.

The procedure before the reform was particularly long (eighteen months on average) and complex: application to be submitted via a four-page Cerfa, accompanied by sixteen pages of notice. There were 60% dropouts at this stage. The deadlines for holding the juries varied, ranging from one month to one year, and the support was standardized. Result : “Only 10% of those interested went on to obtain their diploma”, notes Olivier Gérard, project manager of thethe France VAE digital platformwho continues: “The whole challenge of the reform is to put the user at the heart of the system instead of forcing them to chase after the various stakeholders. We wanted to remove the irritants. »
