Valve has just officially announced: SteamVR 2.0 is here!

That’s it, it’s official, SteamVR 2.0 is finally here after coming out of its short beta phase. An expectation that will delight VR aficionados.

Although it had been announced since 2019, the beta was only launched in September. Valve has certainly worked hard to ensure that this new version of SteamVR is not just a simple update. The company’s ambition is to transform its virtual reality interface into a real bridge between the different facets of the Steam ecosystem. Notice to users of VR headsets!

A new era for VR?

As we wrote in our article dedicated to the launch of the beta, the interface has undergone a solid polish to match that of Steam. Improvements to the keyboard, store and better Linux compatibility are also there. But it goes a little deeper than that.

Valve places its new iteration of SteamVR within a broader brand strategy, aimed at improving the Steam platform and strengthening its features. SteamVR 2.0 is therefore expected to be regularly updated in the future to improve the user experience, which rather explicitly demonstrates Valve’s desire to remain at the forefront of VR services.

We could expect the announcement of a new helmet, but that is not the case yet. There are many rumors circulating from South Korea about a possible new device, but nothing tangible to sink our teeth into. Other rumors even mention the development of a fully autonomous headset by Valve. Code name: “Deckard”. Nothing official at the moment, so we will have to make do with this update, which we have waited a long time for.
