  • Vanced offered YouTube content ad-free, which is why Google took legal action against the app.
  • Old versions of the application can still be used.
  • Now Google is warning you about the app via Play Protect.

Vanced, the alternative to YouTube, had to bow to corporate giants Google and stop working on the software. The app for Android devices, computers and smart TVs offered you the same content as YouTube, only without the ads. As a result, Google took legal action against Vanced.

The accused company had to stop work on Vanced and remove the download links from the website. But already installed versions continue to run until they no longer work due to missing updates.

Unfounded warning?

But that doesn’t seem to be enough for Google. According to GoogleWatchBlog, Google Play Protect now warns you about the Vanced app and recommends uninstalling it. However, if you installed the app prior to the lawsuit, there’s no reason to believe it’s dangerous. However, Google has the right to warn against the app because Vanced is a copy of YouTube.

The strategy behind it is to finally drive Vanced off the market. It can be assumed that many will ultimately uninstall the app out of uncertainty or because the constant push notifications are annoying.

real danger

Since Vanced is still very popular, there are fears that cyber criminals will take advantage of the situation to spread malware. We therefore advise against downloading Vanced.apks from the web. These could be clones of the software that contain malware. Similar cases have been reported more frequently in the past.
