Vandalism, threats – neighbors live in fear of “horror flat shares”

A crisis flat share with two young people makes life hell for the tenants. Threats and vandalism are the order of the day. The city now wants to move them to another place.

In a cooperative residential building on Hirschstettner Strasse in the 22nd district, the house blessing hangs crooked. Because a crisis shared apartment with two young boys who are looked after by the youth welfare office makes life hell for the neighbors.

“Heast Oida, I live here”
“As tenants, we knew that a shared apartment would be moving in, and we had nothing against it,” says resident Markus B. der “Krone”. But then they would not have known what was in store for them. “Last week one of the youngsters kicked the balcony door with his foot. When I asked him to stop, he just said: ‘Heast Oida, I live here and can do what I want,’ “says B.

Ransacked mailboxes, anxious carers
But that’s not all: mailboxes have been ransacked and searched for valuable items, tenants are threatened with violence by the teenagers with a belt around their hand. “Our neighbors no longer let their children play outside because one of the young people there smashed a television with a hammer,” reports the resident.

According to the tenant, even the social workers who were supposed to look after the young people gave up. “The rooms have to be completely renovated, they even tore electrical cables out of the wall,” he says. The guys would come and go when they wanted. The police are on site several times a week – also in vain.

Youth Welfare Office tried to find solutions
The youth welfare office is aware of the difficulties. “There were once ten young people in the shared apartment, now there are two. We are working flat out to move them to another location, ”says a spokeswoman.
