Two days ago Vanessa Mai, 31, still had it mysteriously announced on Instagram: “I have to confess something to you. I was in the studio… but it went a little differently than you might think.” Now it’s clear why she gave her fans a little lead time before she spoke out: Mai actually recorded a song together with Malle great Ikke Hipgold, 46! The song is called “Hedgehog” and has the kind of over-the-top sound you’re used to from the party singer. May fans, on the other hand, may not believe their ears at first.

This also seems to be clear to the pop star: “Ikke Hülsegold, what have we done,” wonders Mai the comments section on your post, with whom she revealed the surprising collaboration. In any case, her fans are open to the whole thing, even if there are some concerns that she could now drift “into this mall area”…

How did the unusual collaboration come about?

The “Picture” Mai now described how it came about: “It wasn’t planned, but those are usually the best things!” Accordingly, the two of them “got to know and appreciate each other” on a podcast and “had been agreeing for a while that we would meet with his team in his studio to write songs for me. The time had come a week or two ago.”

Matthias Distel alias Ikke Hülsegold also has his say and explains the song’s supposedly profound message: “I want a hedgehog means that you don’t need a Ferrari to have fun. A bike is enough. The magic lies in the little things .” It is now obvious to Mai that opinions will differ on the joint work: “Either you celebrate him or you hate him,” is her conclusion.
