Vaulx-en-Velin: a mother and her 10-year-old daughter killed by stabbing, the father in police custody

A 31-year-old mother and her 10-year-old daughter were found dead overnight from Wednesday to Thursday at their home in Vaulx-en-Velin, in the Rhône. The father, suspected of being the author, was placed in police custody, said the Lyon prosecutor’s office.

The facts were revealed by the suspect himself who presented himself Thursday around 1:15 a.m. at the Vaulx-en-Velin police station “declaring that he had killed his wife and daughter”.

He “was immediately placed in police custody,” the same source told AFP, confirming information from the daily Le Progrès.

A crew was immediately sent to the family home located in the Grappinière district.

“The police went to the victims’ homes (…) and discovered the lifeless body of the respondent’s companion and their 10-year-old daughter,” the prosecution said.

An open investigation

The bodies of the woman as well as that of the little girl were lying in a bedroom, lying on the bed and covered with blankets.

Following this discovery, the prosecution opened an investigation for intentional homicides “by a person who is or has been a spouse or cohabitant or partner linked to the victim by a civil pact of solidarity” and on a 15-year-old minor.

According to initial information, the death of the two family members dates back several days. When the bodies were discovered, the two victims had wounds and stab wounds. Traces of blood were also found in the room.

Entrusted to the Rhône Departmental Security, the investigation is continuing “currently in order to determine the motives and the exact circumstances” of the acting out.
