VdB with improvisation – glitch at Haslauer’s swearing-in

President Van der Bellen had to improvise on Haslauer’s third oath of office.

The Chancellor was not present this time. Unlike five years ago, when Governor Wilfried Haslauer was accompanied by Sebastian Kurz to the swearing-in ceremony with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, the head of government was not there this time. The federal government was also represented without Karl Nehammer. The Salzburg Minister Karoline Edtstadler accompanied Haslauer, as did his wife Christine, of course. National Councilor Peter Haubner was also there and witnessed a breakdown that Van der Bellen routinely solved. Because the Federal President did not have the paper with the oath formula ready – and ended up reciting it by heart. Flawless. The experience of swearing in is apparently already large enough. For Haslauer it was the third swearing in as governor. Once again by Heinz Fischer, on Monday for the second time by Van der Bellen. They are both “good friends,” said Van der Bellen, who always appreciate each other’s opinions, “even if they’re not always their own.” In his short speech (see text on the left), the Federal President hid many warnings. Governor wants to pay attention to style and tone It was clear that he is not a big fan of FPÖ government participation, without Van der Bellen saying it directly. He repeatedly swore to Haslauer what the governor would do and what he would know how to prevent. Haslauer gratefully accepted the trust placed in him. Regarding the admonishing words of the Federal President, Haslauer said: “That corresponds entirely to my view of my role in the government.” Overall, this is an important task for politicians in the government office. “It is generally the duty of those in government to pay attention to tone and style. That’s important to me,” said the governor.
