  • From the Austrian company Vello there is a novelty with the Vello Bike+ GEARS.
  • It celebrates its premiere as part of the VELOBerlin bicycle festival.
  • The foldable e-bike offers a Zehus motor that can charge a battery while riding.

We already know Vello from our own experience. We have come to appreciate the Vello Alfine (test report) in everyday life as a highly practical and agile speedster. Vello has also had foldable e-bikes in its range for some time. Problem: So far, the brand’s e-bikes have not been available with gears. The Austrians have now solved the problem.

The Vello Bike+ Gears has six manually shiftable gears and the well-known Zehus motor, which we already encountered when testing the lightweight Cooper E, among other things. The drive combines battery and motor into one unit. A special feature is the possibility of energy recovery while driving.

When driving downhill and also when you pedal backwards, power flows back into the battery thanks to recuperation. As a result, you have to recharge the battery much less often at the socket. And thanks to the new gear shift, you are now much more relaxed on the road in mountainous regions.

Vello also named a price for the new product: The Vello Bike+ Gears costs 3,090 euros and will be on display for the first time at VELOBerlin (May 6th to 7th, Tempelhof Airport). Test rides with other bikes from the brand, such as the Vello Sub, are also possible there. We present other e-bike innovations of the season in the linked overview article. You can also find a comparison test of eleven city e-bikes on Netzwelt.
