Tom Hardy has revealed that one of the reasons he took on the role of Venom was because his son, Louis Thomas, 10, was a fan of the character. The actor also confided that his son knew the super-villain much better than him and that he gave him advice on how to interpret him well.
A fully digital Venom
Initially, the production planned to have Tom Hardy play Venom in performance capture. Quickly, the special effects team realized that it would not work because the sensors on the actor must perfectly match the features of the character who will then be added digitally, as for Planet of the Apes. However, Venom is gigantic and his physiognomy did not fit at all with that of a human. It was therefore decided to create the supervillain entirely in computer-generated images.
Woody Allen inspiration?
Tom Hardy has revealed some unusual inspirations for his interpretation of Venom. First of all, the actor cites Woody Allen, for his way of playing tortured and neurotic characters. He then mentions the martial artist Connor McGregor for his ability to let loose in “uber-violence” and ends by talking about Redman; according to him, a totally crazy and crazy character lives in the rapper’s head, a bit like Venom lives in the mind of Eddie Brock.
