Veolia: detects Covid variants in wastewater

(CercleFinance.com) – Veolia and its partners – the IPMC (CNRS-Université Côte d’Azur), the start-up IAGE and the Bataillon des Marins Pompiers de Marseille (BMPM) – have announced that they will strengthen their identification and quantification of SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater.

Launched in September 2020, this solution called Vigie Covid-19 makes it possible to detect and quantify alpha, beta, gamma, delta (since last summer) and Omicron (since a few days) variants in wastewater.

Ultimately, this method could become a new indicator to help manage the pandemic, believes Veolia. Thanks to PCR screening techniques, it also makes it possible to identify the presence of known mutations originating from existing variants of the virus and to evaluate their concentrations.
