Google has just rolled out version 11.7 of Android Auto. However, according to the testimony of several users, this version brought a rather annoying bug for all those who prefer Waze, Coyote or another navigation service rather than Google Maps. Explanations.
While version 11.5 of Android Auto deployed in February finally integrated a highly anticipated AI-based feature, namely the famous notification summaries, Google naturally continued the development of its special car OS.
A few weeks ago, we were treated to the beta of version 11.6, and in recent days, the Mountain View company has officially deployed version 11.7 of Android Auto, or AA for short. No beta this time, the stable version is already available to all users.

Unfortunately, this version brings its share of bugs and malfunctions. Among them, there are some that particularly annoy fans of Waze, Coyote, Sygic or other third-party navigation services outside of Google Maps. For an as yet unknown reason, version 11.7 of Android Auto has slightly disrupted navigation voice commands.
On AA, it is possible to use Google Assistant to trigger the creation of a route by voice. Generally, Google Assistant then switches the command to your favorite mapping app, or failing that the last one used.
Navigation voice commands only switch to Google Maps
However, on Android 11.7, many users have noticed that navigation voice commands are systematically redirected to Google Maps. No matter if you prefer Waze, Coyote or other alternatives, your route will be open on Google Maps. “Google, in its infinite wisdom (and quest for world domination), has implemented a switch that forces the head unit to switch from the user-selected navigation program (like Waze) to Google Maps every time the user tries to verbally request navigation”, complains a concerned user on Reddit.
According to several users, a makeshift solution is to deactivate the Google Maps app on your smartphone. This way, Android Auto can no longer switch navigation voice commands to the mapping service. Fortunately, a fix appears to be on the way. As our colleagues from the 9To5Google site point out, some aggrieved users claim that version 15.13.46.28 of the Google application currently being deployed has resolved these concerns with Google Assistant and voice navigation commands.
