Verstappen wins, Leclerc is eliminated

With the triumph in Le Castellet, world champion Max Verstappen takes a huge step towards defending his title. His toughest competitor Charles Leclerc retired in the 19th of 53 laps while in the lead.

(sda) In the World Championship standings, Verstappen is already 63 points ahead of Leclerc (233:170) after the twelfth of 22 races of the season. In addition, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished on the podium for the fourth time in a row. In his 300th World Championship race, Hamilton finished second in the Mercedes ahead of his teammate George Russell, who edged out Sergio Perez in the Red Bull on the third to last lap.
