Vertigo: Robert Downey Jr. is set to star in the remake of the Hitchcock masterpiece

The psychological thriller “Vertigo” by film master Alfred Hitchcock is to be remade in a remake. Now Paramount Picture is said to have signed “Iron Man” actor Robert Downey Jr. in the leading role.

In 2012, “Vertigo,” the 1958 Alfred Hitchcock thriller, was named the best film of all time by more than 800 film critics. Big footsteps that Paramount Picture now wants to fill in, because the US production company is planning a remake of the masterpiece. It has now also been announced that Marvel and “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. will not only be involved in the project, but will also play a leading role.

The eerie thriller “Vertigo – From the Realm of the Dead” is one of the best-known films by legendary director Alfred Hitchcock and, after initially being misunderstood by the public, is now considered a great work of cinematic art. Based on French literature, the psychological thriller follows police officer John Ferguson as he tries to cope with the trauma resulting from his crippling fear of heights.

At the same time, he wants, initially reluctantly, to help an old friend save his wife from committing suicide. However, everything turns out very differently and the characters become entangled in a game of masquerade and dizziness.

Now the acclaimed film is set to be rebooted, and Robert Downey Jr. is set to play the lead role of detective Ferguson, who was originally played by actor and film legend James Stewart. Downey Jr. also wants to be involved in the project behind the camera.

According to the US magazine Deadline, he plans to produce the film together with his wife Susan Downey. The project will be scripted by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
