“Veterinarian Dr. Mertens” gets 13 new episodes. Filming for the eighth season has already begun.

The popular ARD format “Veterinarian Dr. Mertens” continues. Filming for the eighth season has already begun, as the broadcaster announced on Monday. Fans can look forward to 13 new episodes. The actors have been in front of the camera in and around Leipzig as well as in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt since May 3rd. Shooting will continue until the end of November.

Exciting cases and emotional stories

“Following the success of the last season, we are happy to send ‘Tierärztin Dr. Mertens’ into the sequel,” explains Alexander Bickel, head of the “ARD joint editorial team for series in the main evening program”. Actress Elisabeth Lanz (50) will, as usual, play the main role of Dr. Susanne Mertens take over. For the new season, Bickel promises “family life in emotional high gear” and exciting animal cases “in and outside the zoo enclosure”.

Ursela Monn (71), Gunter Schoß (81), Lennart Betzgen (26), Lilly Wiedemann (20) and Thorsten Wolf (57) can be seen again alongside Lanz. There are also some newcomers, including Neshe Demir (40), Dominik Weber (37), Matthias Komm (56) and Muriel Bielenberg (27). It is not yet clear when the new season will be shown on television. A spokeswoman told spot on news last year that the broadcast was planned for 2023.

That’s what the new episodes are about

For vet Dr. Susanne Mertens says in the new episodes: everything at the beginning. She has been working as a mobile vet for a year now, but not everything is going perfectly. She’s in trouble with the bank and many customers don’t pay the bills. When she is called to the Leipzig Zoo because of an animal patient, she realizes how much she misses her old job. But the post of chief veterinarian has already been taken: Dr. Elif Sahin (Neshe Demir) is the name of her successor.
