Victims are children – online abuse: 64 suspects in Austria

More than 90,000 online accounts containing child pornography have been exposed worldwide as part of the international police operation “Heketara”. In Austria, 64 suspects who possessed or passed on such material were investigated. A man is even suspected of abusing his six-year-old daughter himself and offering the pictures online.

This case in Salzburg had already been reported last year, the Federal Criminal Police Office confirmed to the APA. The operation was launched in October 2019 after a provider drew attention to a platform being used to share footage of child sexual abuse online.Several hundred investigations launchedHeaded by the Te Tari Taiwhenua Department of Internal Affairs (DIA ) in New Zealand international prosecution authorities and federal police as well as Europol and Interpol were involved, in Austria the department for sexual offenses and child pornography in the Federal Criminal Police Office in 2020.
