Video. A billionaire at 417 km / h on the highway: driving liable to prosecution, even in Germany

In Germany, it is “recommended” not to exceed 130 km/h on the motorway. But the Czech billionaire Radim Passer crossed the limits by filming himself during the year 2021 at 417 km / h at the wheel of a Bugatti Chiron, during the day on the motorway between Berlin and Hanover.

He posted the video on his Youtube channel in mid-January, explaining that “many people (had) asked us to share unedited footage” of the sports car, one of the fastest in the world. The video, seen more than 9 million times on Youtube, however, caught the attention of the authorities.

Soon a limitation?

The public prosecutor’s office in Stendal (Saxony-Anhalt) thus opened an investigation on Monday for a prohibited “individual” race, a charge retained when a motorist, according to the Criminal Code, “moves at an inappropriate speed and in a grossly contrary manner to the Highway Code and reckless”.

In a country attached to the absence of speed limits on the highway, the video also drew criticism and fueled the debate on possible ceilings. The Liberal Minister of Transport condemned the billionaire’s attitude at the wheel in the German media and recalled that the absence of a speed limit should be compensated for by the fact that the vehicle should be constantly “under control”.
