It was a sight that took your breath away: a bear had caught his head in a bucket so unhappily while swimming in a lake in Wisconsin that he could no longer free himself. He had to watch helplessly as the water in the vessel rose ever higher to the mouth and nose – until a brave couple accidentally rowed past and could save his life.

Tricia Hurt and her husband Brian were out on the lake in a canoe when they saw the bear fighting desperately. Without hesitation, they paddled up to the animal and tried to free its locked head. But their first attempt was unsuccessful: the swimming animal struck in blind panic and threatened to injure the two. But then the two tried a clever trick on the second attempt – in the video you can see how they could save the bear's life with a courageous hand!
