“ It’s a special house for special people,” sums up Hervé Rouché mischievously. It is not worth looking elsewhere, this house is unique. First of all, it is a troglodyte, nestled in a natural cavity in the rock. Wooden overhangs and bay windows touch the void above the tops of holm oaks. To top it off, it is clinging to a cliff and not just any cliff, since it is that of Beynac, with an incredible view of the Dordogne valley, green meadows and wooded hills.
The castles are at your feet: Fayrac, Castelnaud, Marqueyssac, Lacoste. The Beynac fortress is at the same height, a crossbow bolt away. You can see her majestic silhouette from Hervé and Nathalie’s bedroom. They have been the masters of the place for ten years and they are going to leave this house with a heavy heart, for a new professional project based in Sarlat which requires more space (1).
Artist’s house
This couple from Rochelais bought it from its creator, Michel Monseigny, a sculptor who had the crazy idea of building this house of rock, wood and glass. It was in the 1980s and he worked there for twenty years, sometimes wielding his gigantic stone chainsaw to shape the rock, manually carrying tons of natural materials, to be transported to this place only accessible on foot. from the top of the village of Beynac.
Hervé came forty years ago on a visit to the Dordogne. He had been marked by this formidable view, from the Calvary above the house. He didn’t know he would live here one day. In August 2010, during a weekend in Périgord, he brought his wife Nathalie there. They are in a phase of professional transition and are looking for a place to anchor themselves. Intrigued by this wooden house, they notice a small “For Sale” sign.
“Michel Monseigny built the structure and we gave it a soul”
Resonance
They immediately dial the phone number listed above. The real estate agent, Manuel Peiro, gives them an appointment for a visit the next day. Fifteen days later, they sign the sales agreement. “There were hooked atoms, a resonance,” explains Hervé. Some work and a year later, they moved in. “She is really beautiful, says Nathalie. Michel Monseigny built the structure and we gave it a soul. »
Hervé, former business manager, swimming pool specialist and specialist in green spaces, fine handyman, brought all the comforts, only with natural materials. The wood is natural in color and lime plaster adorns the curves of the rock.
The volumes and levels, over 125 m², are astonishing: they embrace the cavities and faults. Everything is in nooks and crannies. We move there by brushing against the mineral. “We would like artists to buy it,” hopes Nathalie.
Yes, because it is for sale: 584,000 euros. For more information, you can visit the pap.fr website or call 06 64 33 04 11.
