TikTok is actually nothing at all for parents – and most teenagers would roll their eyes in exasperation if mom or dad suddenly wanted to gain internet fame with moody dance films. In this self-experiment, however, the participants set eyes on it: Mother and daughter want to find out in a direct duel who can probably gather more followers on the video platform.
TikTok – controversial video fun
Hardly any other app has grown as strongly in the last few months as TikTok: Especially due to the corona crisis and the widespread isolation, the platform with its dance videos and short clips has become more popular than ever. Data protection experts are very concerned about the widespread use of the Chinese app – because there are a number of parts in the app's code that the users spy on to an extent that is very unusual even for social media apps. Therefore, there is always a debate at the political level as to whether the app should be banned completely. For most users, these concerns are no longer important: Unfortunately, apps that access a lot of their users' data is commonplace and, especially for younger users, is no reason to uninstall TikTok. If corporations like Google and Facebook have already saved an extensive profile of their users, then their argument – what damage can an app do more?
Mother against daughter: unusual duel
