VIDEO – “I saw him experience his death”: Jean-Marie Périer looks back on this shooting with Johnny Hallyday which almost turned into drama

Johnny Hallyday was not afraid of leading a life at 200 miles an hour, in every sense of the word. Guest this Thursday, December 7, on the set of C to youpresented by Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine and her team of columnists, Jean-Marie Périer, famous photographer of the stars and the gang of Hi buddies in the 60s, is returned to several anecdotes recounted in his new book, My sleepless nights, published by Calmann-Lévy, and available in all bookstores since November 2. Among them, that of his photograph of Taulier behind the wheel of a Ferrari is one of his most famous, which he hastened to recount: “I really like the word he said to me, ‘I touched my car this morning’” he says first, the rocker meaning by this thathe had barely received his new car. On this occasion, the photographer and ex-companion of the singer Françoise Hardy hastens to offer to immortalize the moment : “I said to him: ‘Let’s meet in the woods’, we took the photo, and afterwards, he said to me: ‘Okay, we’ll meet at Fouquet’s’. He leaves, voom, at the next intersection, he explodes the car. It lasted an hour and a half the reporter said, causing hilarity on set.

But this is not the only anecdote that Jean-Marie Périer experienced around cars with the interpreter of Requiem for a fool. He says he is also got into a Lamborghini with himin which they experienced an accident through which he still wonders how they survived: “I don’t even know how we didn’t die […] It was the middle of the night, we arrived, we blew the thing up.” he said. A memory of which he especially keeps the image he had that evening of the rocker: “But what was touching was that there, I saw him die. I saw him really experience his death, like James Dean, because that was our passion, James Dean, at the time. So, it’s not fun to talk about today, but I remember that. I loved this guy dearly he concluded. A vestige that truly left an indelible imprint in the photographer’s memory.
