REPORT – In companies, the government strongly encourages teleworking and imposes a strengthening of barrier gestures. Almost 2,000 controllers are assigned to this task. How do they work? What are their means?
TF1 | Report J. Cressens, O. Cresta –
For nearly three weeks, the government has asked companies to use teleworking two to three days a week when possible, but without making it compulsory, and has imposed a strengthening of barrier gestures. To ensure that these measures are fully respected, labor inspectors “are in the field first of all to advise companies, but also to control, and if necessary sanction”, declared this Thursday Élisabeth Borne, Minister of Labor.

France affected by a fifth wave of Covid-19
In the subject at the top of this article, our team followed one of these controllers: Dominique Balmes who, this Thursday, made a surprise visit to a company in the Paris region. This labor inspector came to check compliance with health measures at this social landlord. The first check focused on wearing the mask. A measure well respected here, but it is not the case everywhere. “I have to take care of two other companies for which I had reports which were made by employees”, he specifies at the microphone of TF1.
A positive result for 90% of the establishments inspected
Distance between the offices, the presence of disinfectant wipes and gels, regular opening of the windows … The company thought it would be faultless, but the devil is sometimes hidden in the details. For example, coat racks are not regularly disinfected. The controller also looks at the implementation of teleworking. The three days a week imposed by the company are satisfactory even if it is not part of the evaluation book. They remain free in their organization.

After an hour’s visit to this company, the results are positive for the labor inspector, as for 90% of the establishments inspected. But what do bad students risk? “The inspector can send them a letter of observation. And for those who would be really reluctant, we have the power to put them on formal notice, or even to send them before the judge so that these measures are effectively implemented”, explains Gaëtan Rudan, regional director – DRIEETS. 5,000 checks should be carried out in December. That is five times more than in November.
