As the Olympic Games which will take place in Paris in the summer of 2024 approach, C à vous received Valérie Pécresse on Thursday December 7 to take stock. In her capacity as president of the Île-de-France regional council but also president of Île-de-France Mobilités, the politician came to talk about public transport which may not be ready to accommodate the approximately 3 million tourists expected. After having discussed these issues at length, among other current topics, the one which only collected 4.78% of votes in the 2022 presidential election returned to his defeat, without tongue in cheek.
Asked about her potential “failed campaign” by Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine, the Republican representative was transparent. “There are plenty of reasons, but I don’t think the French are very interested in me coming back to this election.“, she initially defended herself. In the process, the presenter cited a vitriolic passage appearing in The Time of Fighting by Nicolas Sarkozy, about this failure. Fair play, the 56-year-old candidate replied: “Yes, I wasn’t ready, I said it. I was somewhat unprepared, it’s true. And what’s more, we only had three months.” And to confess: “I take full responsibility for this defeat, but what I believe, above all, is that my ideas are still relevant.”
“It was a campaign for nothing”
Valérie Pécresse is not ashamed of this defeat. And for good reason, this is not the first time that she has addressed it in the media. On November 29, during an interview given to Pointthe politician had made the same frank speech about her score. “It was a campaign for nothing. […] I was unable to exploit the narrow path that could have opened up at the end of 2021 to embody a credible alternative. I lost an election, it’s true, but I didn’t lose my convictions.”, she told the newspaper. And to conclude: “I made strong proposals which remain completely relevant today.starting with those to restore a strong State and revive the French dream.”
