Vigil sur Arte: what has become of Rose Leslie since Game of Thrones?

Known for having played Ygritte in “Game of Thrones”, Leslie Rose is this Thursday evening showing “Vigil”, a gripping British thriller broadcast on Arte, in which she plays a policewoman in search of the truth.

Arte launches this Thursday, January 13 the broadcast of Vigil, a breathless British thriller which follows a Scottish inspector, played by Suranne Jones, sent aboard a Royal Navy nuclear submarine to investigate the death of a member of the crew.

She is helped in her research by her teammate who stayed on the ground, who sends her the information via coded messages so that they are not intercepted by the wrong people.

This key character is played by Rose Leslie, a Scottish actress known for having lent her features to Ygritte (Ygrid in VO), Jon Snow’s great love in Game of Thrones during seasons 2, 3 and 4. What has she been up to since leaving the world-famous series?

Debut on the big screen

On the strength of her notoriety, Rose Leslie indeed joined the cast of the second season of the intriguing Utopia before embarking on the cinema with the horrific Honeymoon and Sticky Notes, in which she plays a dancer whose father is suffering from cancer.

The actress is then chosen to team up with Vin Diesel in his fight against witches in the blockbuster The Last Witch Hunter. The same year, she made her debut in season 4 of Luther, a critically acclaimed British series where she played opposite Idris Elba.

Back to his first loves

In 2017, she was chosen to be one of the three headliners of the new judicial series The Good Fight, spin-off of The Good Wife, which is available in France on Amazon Prime Video. This is the opportunity for her to give the reply to Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo.

Rose Leslie plays Maia Rindell, goddaughter of Diane Lockhart (Baranski) who joined Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart as a partner, just after passing the bar. In 2019, she announced her departure from the series after only 3 seasons.

Vigil, a geopolitical thriller

In the process, the producers of Bodyguard offer him one of the main roles of Vigil, the new detective series from the BBC. She camps there Kirsten Longacre, companion of the character played by Suranne Jones, who will help the policewoman to solve her investigation from the mainland. This is the opportunity for her to find Stephen Dillane, whom she had rubbed shoulders with on the set of Game of Thrones.

From its launch, the series was unsurprisingly a real success since it managed to bring together nearly 12 million viewers during its 6 broadcast evenings. If for the moment it has not yet been renewed for a second season, Rose Leslie is not ready to leave our screens.

She will be showing on February 9 in Death on the Nile, a new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel by and with Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient-Express) before playing Theo James’ wife (Divergent) in The Time Traveler’s Wife, an HBO series written by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) which should arrive on the small skylight by the end of the year.

Find Vigil on Thursdays January 13 and 20 on Arte and until February 18 on Arte.tv.
