The Crit’Air sticker is mandatory in certain areas of France, during pollution peaks or in so-called “low mobility emission” areas. Getting your sticker on the official site is crucial.

Scam sites that sell fake vignettes are multiplying, while many foreign tourists are preparing to cross France by car.

Expensive scams

Fake sites copy the official site of the French government, with the aim of selling the famous vignettes at an exorbitant price. While the official site is available in English and German, the scammers take advantage of the linguistic confusion to offer alternative sites on which the information requested is minimal, the form is shorter and the price of the sticker is… much higher.

One of these sites uses the codes and colors of the government page. The sticker application procedure is simplified, which means less information to fill out. In the end, customers paid up to 59.99 euros for an imaginary sticker that never arrived and should have cost less than five euros. Without this sticker and without the correct classification category, motorists are liable to a fine of 68 euros, which can go up to 450 euros.

The importance of the Crit’Air sticker

It is important to keep in mind that all motorized vehicles are concerned, including two-wheelers, utility vehicles and heavy goods vehicles. Six different levels of classification exist: a less polluting vehicle has a criterion of 1 or 2, while the most polluting can go up to 6. Low emission zones are listed on the site. smart one, and are mainly concentrated in cities such as Paris, Lyon, Grenoble, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Reims or Nice. The regulations differ for each city, so you must check them yourself depending on your vehicle.

To avoid fraud, be sure to order your sticker on the official government website ending in .gouv.fr. A good indication if you have any doubts. In order to carry out the request, arm yourself with your gray card or registration certificate. There is quite a lot of information to fill out, but don’t be discouraged! Finally, if you have a retrofitted vehicle, you will have to declare it beforehand on the site.
