(Boursier.com) — The consortium made up of Dragados Offshore -a subsidiary of Cobra IS- and Siemens Energy has been awarded by Amprion Offshore the contract for the design, construction and installation of wind energy conversion platforms. They will be installed in the North Sea to connect several wind farms to the network. Their role will be to convert the alternating current produced into high-voltage direct current (HVDC: High-Voltage Direct Current), then to transport it to the ground stations, located up to 280 km away.

With a total electrical energy transmission capacity of 1.8 GW, these platforms will be able to supply the equivalent of a city like Hamburg, i.e. 1.8 million inhabitants, from 2028.

This project is part of the German energy transition plan and is one of the most ambitious energy transition projects in the country.

The construction of these platforms will take place at the Dragados Offshore yard in Cadiz (Spain), and will represent more than 1,000 jobs until 2027.

Dragados Offshore has already been awarded the execution of 2 other HVDC projects of this type, which are in progress.
