Users, whether buyers or sellers, are trapped by the dishonesty of individuals on Vinted. The latter stand out for the empty package and counterfeiting scam.

On the community platform Vinted, the atmosphere seems to have deteriorated in recent months. Victim of its success, the famous application, the third most popular e-retailer in France, necessarily attracts women and men tinged with dishonesty, whose sole aim is to take advantage of the flaws in the system to trap their victims, whether whether they are sellers or buyers.

The trap of alleged counterfeiting can close on good faith sellers on Vinted

On TikTok, Joy, aka @manguepoudree is one of the users determined to make their misadventure public. At the start of the year, she indicated that she had dealt, for “ the third time in two months », to a buyer who, to obtain a refund, declared to Vinted that they had received a counterfeit.

In itself, it is possible for this to happen, but when a seller is wrongly accused of supplying a counterfeit product, it is particularly difficult for them to prove their good faith to Vinted. Joy was unfortunately able to learn this the hard way.

The young woman indicates that, during her last mishap, she accepted the buyer’s request for a return. But the latter has “ continued to report the dispute to Vinted, which ruled in its favor “. The platform, unfortunately, continued to take the buyer’s side, even though Joy had provided screenshots attesting to the authenticity of the product sold. His account was then blocked. Unfortunately, this is not the only problem reported on Vinted these days.

The empty package scam, another scourge

Other users mention the “empty package” scam. Here, the seller is not the only one who can be trapped. A buyer in bad faith can challenge a seller in good faith by accusing him, to Vinted, of having received an empty package.

Here, the buyer lies by saying that they never received the product or that the package was returned before they could collect it from a relay point for example. The goal, each time, is to obtain the refund, recovering the product in the process. Conversely, but less common, a buyer may receive a very well packaged package, but without any product inside.

And where it is possible to speak of fraud is that sellers are much less well protected than buyers (customers) in the company’s general policy, which encourages crooked buyers to repeat their misdeed. A piece of advice therefore, when you send a package by Vinted, film each step of the process, and keep all proof of purchase of the items you are reselling, and that of the carrier.
