Vinted removes PayPal from payment methods and leaves users at the mercy of scams


A bad surprise awaited Vinted users when trying to make purchases today. Indeed, the application no longer allows to use PayPal as a means of payment. Problem: it greatly improved security against disputes, via an alert system and payments in installments. Many of them this morning announced their departure from the application.

With Leboncoin, Vinted has become the benchmark for second-hand in France and elsewhere in the world. The application offers a wide selection of ready-to-wear items, but also accessories and other digital objects. A large community of users connects every day to find the latest bargains. But sometimes things don’t quite go as planned.

Indeed, this morning, annoyed messages are multiplying on social networks, accusing Vinted of having taken “the worst decision” : have removed PayPal from the means of payment of the application. From now on, users can only choose to pay with their credit card or, if they are on iPhone, with Apple Pay. Android users, on the other hand, have no other alternative.

“Unfortunately, we no longer support payments via PayPal. We invite you to use one of our other payment methods to pay for your order ». Here is the message that the application just displays, which certainly does not help users to get angry. And for good reason: the main reason to go through PayPal was the security offered by this solution.

Indeed, the service allows, among other things, to pay in four instalments. However, when buying an expensive product, this option allows additional protection against scams, a point on which Vinted is not the most efficient despite its Buyer Protection. Not to mention the fact that PayPal offers an alert system in the event of a dispute, which avoids being charged a substantial sum for no reason.

This is not the first time that Vinted has drawn the wrath of its users. In 2021, the application was pinned by UFC-Que Choisir, which then accused it of overcharging its customers.
