In season 5 of “Virgin River”, Mel manages to find her biological father. But in the last moments of the final episode, he finds her to tell her something important. What is his father’s secret?

After several weeks of waiting, Netflix has finally released the last two episodes of season 5 of Virgin River online. Christmas sweaters, mulled wine and artificial snow were on show for these two holiday-themed events.
And if, as usual, the romantic series led by Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson took its time to advance its various plots, this highly anticipated finale still offered its share of surprises.
In the finale of the first part, Mel was shocked to learn that her mother had had a relationship with a man from Virgin River, and that this man could be her biological father.
In the second part, which was put online on Netflix this Thursday, November 30, Mel and Jack set out in search of him, and ended up tracing the trail of a certain Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson).
If at first he refuses to admit that he is the father of the young woman, he changes his mind in the last minutes of season 5 and finds Mel at her chalet. He then confides to her that he is indeed her father, and takes the opportunity to bring her the letters that his mother wrote to him.
“I also have something important to tell you”, he explains to her before the end credits start. But what could he possibly have to tell her?
What is Mel’s father’s secret?
Questioned on the question by the American media TVInsiderPatrick Sean Smith, the showrunner of Virgin River, preferred to keep the mystery on this cliffhanger which should change everything for Mel.
“This is the effect we wanted”, he explained before adding: “You’ll have to watch season 6 to find out what’s going to happen.” He of course did not want to confirm whether this confidence was related to the character’s health or if it related to another subject.
Will Mel discover she has a second family? Or that his father is suffering from a serious illness? We will have to wait for season 6, which should begin filming in the coming months, to discover the answer to these questions.
One thing is certain, the arrival of Everett in Mel’s life should bring a new dynamic to the young nurse’s life. “In season 6, we will explore a sort of paternal love triangle”, explained the showrunner to TVLine.
“Doc has always been a surrogate father to Mel, so we’ll see what happens when her real biological father comes into her life, and how it will affect their relationship.”
Season 6 of Virgin River will also allow us to learn more about this character, who “lives on the margins of society”, as Patrick Sean Smith explained.
“He’s really withdrawn from society, and we’ll find out it’s for very emotional reasons. So I think that’s part of the conflict in season 6, between Mel enjoying this relationship and him having to grow up to understand where she’s at..”
