Visit to Hof Castle – Really animalistic: From the dromedary to the baroque donkey

At Schloss Hof in the Weinviertel, there is a diverse range of animals to discover in the petting zoo, in the stables and in the paddocks.

There’s “something going on” at Hof Castle in the Weinviertel. Here visitors not only meet Carinthian spectacled sheep, but also many Bactrian camels. Among the 230 animals, the extremely rare “white baroque donkey” stands out with its steel blue eyes and “cremello” coat color. There are currently only a few hundred specimens of the so-called “bringer of light” left to admire across Europe. But ragged sheep, dromedaries and long-haired goats also delight visitors. Just like the adorable offspring: “The first young animals will be born at the beginning of March with Blobe goats. Over the course of the summer, other baby animals come into the world,” explains Katharina Tschann, zoological director at Schloss Hof. Workshops and tours Anyone who would like to delve even deeper into the animal world has the opportunity to do so on a family tour every third Sunday of the month. All sorts of interesting facts await you at donkey or carriage driving workshops, at the “Mystical Horse Show” or at the pony meeting.
