Summer period obliges, it will have been necessary to wait a little longer than usual for the new major version of Vivaldi. But, to compensate, this 5.4 version does not do things by halves on all floors.

Better mouse shortcuts, enhanced security, improved mail service and other elements are concerned, while the Android version remains in version 5.3 for the moment.

Vivaldi wants silence, security and productivity

First of all, the options of Vivaldi’s web panels are always closer to the possibilities offered by the tabs. Indeed, it is now possible, with a simple right click > Mute the panel, to mute the sound of each web panel.

Then it’s the mouse shortcuts that get a little more interesting. Rocker Gestures, i.e. the combination of a right click followed by a left click and a move left or right, can now be assigned to any action. Until now, these gestures were limited to navigation between web pages.

Regarding security, a new checkbox allows you to automatically force the connection to sites in HTTPS. If a site were to connect otherwise, an alert message will then be displayed.

Vivaldi Mail and co. are getting better

Another novelty that is a little more situational has appeared: a new entry in the context menu, called “Copy link to highlighted text”. After having selected a portion of text in a site, choosing this entry after a right click will allow the person receiving the generated link to open the website with this text directly highlighted. However, you will need to be in a Chromium-based browser to be able to take advantage of it.

Finally, Vivaldi 5.4 brings a lot of corrections at many levels (address bar, themes, toolbar, favorites, downloads, etc.), but especially to the recent integrated tools of Vivaldi Mail (Mail, Calendar and RSS feeds ). Vivaldi Mail is also going to version 1.1 for the occasion. To consult the list of corrections made, go to the complete changelog.
