The BodyCap start-up, supported by Orange at VivaTech, made us discover a very small pill that can optimize the performance of athletes, which Clubic presents to you.

If we told you that it was possible to improve the performance of athletes by ingesting a small capsule, you would tell us that this is not new and that it is often for somewhat dishonest purposes. But what we discovered at VivaTech is not a simple pill stuffed with this and that, but a little gem of technology, already used by para-athletes and athletes in training and competition, and which has not only one goal: to preserve the health and integrity of practitioners.

A miniaturized capsule that provides real-time body temperature

At VivaTech, on the stand dedicated to the future of sport at Orange, we met a certain Moëz El Assine, a fencer with an impressive track record. The double world champion (2010, 2011) and Paralympic bronze medalist in team saber (Athens, 2004), Paris 2024 innovation project manager at Orange Events, presented us with the e-Celsius Performance, a pill created by BodyCap , a start-up based in Caen.

The miniaturized, wireless capsule offers on-board monitoring solutions, to allow athletes’ efforts to be adapted according to their physical condition and physiology. Once ingested, the capsule sends body temperature data to the BodyCap wristband. ParaLive technology works thanks to the Orange Cloud. The information, protected from end to end, is transmitted in real time and appears on the operator’s Live Objects platform, a dashboard that can provide valuable information to athlete staff.

I don’t have the same sensitivity in my legs, so when my body heats up, I don’t perceive it in the same way as an able-bodied person. If we take the case of the wheelchair rugby team, made up of quadriplegic people, this capsule will allow the coach to prevent the high temperature situation of his athletes, to make the necessary changes at the right time, and to get the victory at the end », Takes as an example Moëz El Assine. ” The technical and medical staff have all the data of the team at their disposal. He can define an alert criterion and say to himself “be careful, at 37.8°C, it will become critical”. And we then make the replacement, we preserve the health of the athlete, and we maintain at a high level the performance “.

An integrated Bluetooth sensor and natural evacuation

Offer athletes and their staff the possibility of monitoring body temperature during exercise ” makes it possible to avoid situations of dehydration, of complex health which can be a major handicap for the athlete. It’s about practicing your high-level sporting activity in the best conditions, without jeopardizing your health. “, explains Moëz El Assine, who has been testing this solution himself since March.

The little pill contains a Bluetooth sensor, ” carried out in sanitary conditions validated by European standards “, explains Moëz El Assine, who evokes a perfectly secure course, he who has been using the tool regularly since March, at the rate of one per training session or competition.

The capsule is also eliminated naturally. It allows temperature monitoring that can range from 12 to 36 hours. ” I guarantee the benefits and results provided by this device “, adds the athlete, who hopes that the concept will be democratized and that mentalities on this subject will evolve. ” The pill is open to all athletes, whether training or competing. It’s really a question of mentality. The issue of thermal regulation is crucial, since the IOC (International Olympic Committee) has been interested in this issue for years. “, he adds. Enough to accelerate its adoption by all?
