Vivo announces that it has integrated a fingerprint sensor in the screen 11 times larger than the average in the latest smartphones in its IQOO range and its X Note. This reader allows in particular to put two fingers at the same time to unlock the phone with more security.
Vivo really improves its fingerprint reader: 0.2 second unlock speed, two-finger authentication for more security and one-touch configuration. Everything is there to create an unlocking method that we will want to use.
Ultrasonic technology for the fingerprint sensor
The brand claims to have designed an ultrasonic 3D fingerprint sensor that uses ” ultrasonic waves to scan the pores of the user’s finger, and thus obtain an extremely precise 3D image “. Vivo also explains that this sensor has a thickness of 0.2 mm and says it can integrate it under screensborderlessand even flexible OLED screens: we will find it in the Vivo X Fold formalized a few weeks ago.
Another innovation from Vivo: the size of the sensor or, more precisely, its reading area. Count an area of 20 by 30 mm; the brand claims that’s an 11.1 times larger reading area than the optical sensors built into the screen. This allows you to unlock your phone in a larger area, which avoids possible inconvenience with these sensors.
This ultrasonic technology is also intended to speed up the configuration of the sensor. By going through ultrasound, the speed of collecting biometric information is greatly improved. Vivo states that only one screen tap will be required to set up the unlock. Convenient, especially when you have to configure several.
The unlocking speed is also improved: the brand announces that unlocking will be possible in 0.2 seconds. It’s fast, especially for a fingerprint sensor located under the screen. Vivo also prides itself on the fact that its sensor is faster than those of the competition.
What uses for this sensor signed Vivo?
With this sensor with an enlarged reading area, Vivo imagines new uses. For example, there is “the ability to access the user’s favorite applications with a single tap on the fingerprint sensor. The large surface of the fingerprint sensor allows users to set quick access to chosen applications. They will be able to unlock and access a specific application in no time, by tapping on a predefined area of the sensor“.
Also, Vivo wants you to use its sensor with two fingers, this offers more security for the brand, especially during authentication processes on applications that you consider sensitive.
