Paranoid delirium, terminal cancer, Parkinson’s disease, Hubris syndrome… Since the beginning of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has been attributed a certain number of serious illnesses. But does the head of the Kremlin really suffer from a pathology? Asked by the Parisian Magazinethe journalist Bernard Lecomte, author of the books Secrets of the Kremlin (2016) and KGB. The true history of the Soviet secret service (2020), addressed the issue. “The rumor about a possible illness is crediblehe confided. It is indisputable that Putin has gained weight. He is no longer the man of ten years ago, the manly man riding a horse, playing hockey.”
Nevertheless, if he does not exclude the possibility that Vladimir Poutine is indeed suffering from an illness, Bernard Lecomte wonders about the real origin of the rumors about his state of health. According to his theory, these rumors could come directly from Russia. “And if the Western secret services, which peddle this rumor, were manipulated?, asks the journalist to our colleagues. Don’t certain Russian leaders have an interest in propagating the idea that Putin is sick? Thus, the day he goes too far, when the army begins to panic, Putin will suffer the same fate as Gorbachev in 1991, or Khrushchev in 1964. He will be brutally dismissed for “health reasons”. A Russian tradition. We will learn from a press release that, alas, the formidable Vladimir Putin felt unwell and had to leave power.
Is Vladimir Putin crazy?
Be that as it may, according to Bernard Lecomte, Vladimir Poutine does not suffer from any psychological pathology. If many question the mental health of the Russian president, the journalist is certain of one thing: the Russian president is not crazy. “He has shown, and for a long time, a great coherenceunderlines the Kremlin specialist. Of course, to declare a war and go and kill people, you don’t have to be normal. But he is consistent. You need to read his speech. He announced everything he was going to do, the why, the how. It is even dizzying to realize that he had said everything. Let’s not take him for a madman, but for what he is: a manipulator. Since his entry into the KGB until today, he lies all day long, mixing the true and the false. Do not believe what he says, but listen to him. Because he announces things.” Words that should not silence the rumors.
