Update from January 31, 2:30 p.m.: Since around 2:20 p.m., Vodafone has again given the green light to Internet customers. We were informed via email that the disruption could be rectified and customers should be able to surf normally again. Our fault indicator also does not receive any new problem reports.

Internet provider Vodafone is apparently struggling with a major disruption. Since around 12:00 p.m., our fault reporter has received increasing numbers of reports of problems with the DSL connection. A few users also report problems with the mobile Internet and the TV connection.
On the breaking news board, where Vodafone reports current disruptions, a failure of all services in Berlin and the surrounding area is currently indicated. However, our fault detectors receive reports from all over Germany. In addition to Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main and Garbsen are also particularly affected.
The reason for the disruption is probably a central software error
We have reached out to Vodafone for comment and have received the following message via email.
As of today, Monday, January 31, 2022, Vodafone has restrictions on its cable network. A low six-digit number of customers has not been able to surf the Internet or not in the usual quality since 11.45 a.m. and also cannot make landline telephone calls. The cause is an error in a central network element that controls Internet traffic in the cable network. Our technology experts are working flat out to eliminate the fault.

We ask the affected cable customers to be patient and apologize for the temporary inconvenience. We are aware that this is not just about the technical elimination of a software fault, but about customers who have clear communication needs and want and need a connection to the Vodafone cable network.
