It was only a matter of time before Volkswagen announced the launch of its own electric charging network, it is now done. Electrify France, the name of its network, should have no less than 300 terminals in France by the summer of 2024. Each station will be equipped with at least one high-power terminal.
“50% of French people do not have a dedicated parking space allowing them to charge at home”, recalls Volkswagen in a recent press release. It is therefore urgent for the charging network to develop in France. And that’s good, since the German manufacturer intends to enter the race. While negotiations with Tesla are still underway to adopt the NACS connector on its vehicles, the firm announces the launch ofElectrify Franceits own charging network.
With already 100,000 charging stations available in France, Volkswagen knows that it will have to be played carefully. This is why the manufacturer has decided to focus primarily on areas away from major highways. Its charging stations will therefore be located in regions with little coverage by motorways, particularly peri-urban areas. ” Lhe possibility of recharging 150 to 200 km of autonomy in 15-20 min is a real need, even in built-up areas”, advance Volkswagen.

Volkswagen notes, however, that its presence on the highways is already ensured by the Ionity consortium, of which it is one of the founders. Electrify France, for its part, is targeting 150 charging stations by the summer of 2024, as well as 300 high-power 150 kW terminals. These will be present in each of the stations, sometimes reaching the number of 12 in some cases. The stations, meanwhile, will be open 24/7 for drivers of the group’s cars, namely Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda and Cupra.

Once this objective, Volkswagen notes that its network will also be able to develop on the other networks of its brands. To date, this represents 700 charging stations in France. “Volkswagen Group France has decided to play a leading role, High Power charging, even if it is not intended to become the majority, having a place outside the major roads in this ecosystem. »
